Starting Over

Apologies to those who have been following dead links to code or posts on my website for the last week and a half. My website was previously hosted at http://www.atarack.com, until they suddenly disappeared off the web. I’m in the process of recovering things from backups and Google caches; here’s to hoping three years of data hasn’t completely vaporized.

I am looking for a way to select SL items with a standalone app, SL script, or other way easier than a full client recompile.

Since you managed to kludge SLimageupload together, or at least host it, my guess is that you know or know someone who does…

A free Sculptie-O-matic (from linkset to sculptie in less time than it takes to say “click click cut paste click download”) is given to whoever finds a way.

  2. John Hurliman Says:

It’s not possible from LSL scripting (the concept of selecting objects in Second Life requires an avatar to do the selecting). libOpenMetaverse can do this, but you’ll need to write a new command for TestClient or write a bot from scratch. If you are looking for a programmer, try asking in #libomv-dev on EFNet (IRC).

I need SLImageUpload back. A few of my costumers for my Sculptie-O-matic can’t seem to upload with lossless compression even with the standard viewer - while I can upload with the standard viewer just fine!

So yet again I need that awesome tool of yours.

Any idea why it happens only in 1 costumer in 100 approx would help. Do they have an old config file problem or what?

The wayback machine, http://web.archive.org/ second textbox not the first, has lots of your old stuff blog entries in it. I hope it helps.

Go http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.jhurliman.org/ to start fishing for it.

Requests may time out 2 times out of 3 during peak usage hours, and load slowly, but it’s there…

Couldn’t find SLImage upload installer, but I have the installed stuff on my computer. IM Contagious Republic in SL to get them back, and don’t forget to virus scan ‘em!

I put SLImageUpload over here in case some of my costumers were looking for it. Not that it gets much use these days.

I’d be grateful to get the source code, too, to help me figure out how these things work!

    Good luck with the recovery!!!
SLimageupload is the most important thing (hint, hint)!

    :O)

  7. SuezanneC Baskerville Says:

Sorry to hear of your troubles, John.

Remember to keep backups this time, ok?

  8. FlipperPA Peregrine Says:

Ack, sorry to hear that John! Good luck getting your data back.

Quick question on SL Image Upload, like the rest: is the source code for that out anywhere? I was looking to mod it to allow a full Powerpoint to SL conversion. Open up the Powerpoint as a come object, save as PNGs, upload to SL, build into a view screen. I was going to release it BSD for the educators. Let me know what you think - and again, good luck amig0!

FlipperPA: You may have an easier time hosting a video of your presentation on youtube, and then using one of the many youtube player scripts (as playing media from youtube isn’t straightforward).

There is a way to post a series of image to a video, it compresses rather well since there are so few real frames, I don’t know exactly how people do it but it seems fairly commonly done.

And yay for the BSD license!

Contagious/FlipperPA: SLImageUpload is included in libopenmetaverse in the Examples folder, http://lib.openmetaverse.org/
